New Hanover County School Bond Vote Explained

Posted on July 09, 2026

The Decision
This November, New Hanover County voters will decide whether to approve a $320 million general obligation school bond for New Hanover County Schools — one of the most significant education investments in our county’s history. Under North Carolina law, voters have the final say.

What It Funds
Projects include a renovated New Hanover High School, a new middle school replacing Trask, two new elementary schools, an addition at Porters Neck Elementary, and districtwide safety and technology upgrades. Every public school in the county would benefit.

What It Costs
Thanks to up to $116 million committed by the New Hanover County Endowment, the estimated tax impact drops to just half a cent per $100 of assessed value — roughly $20–$30 per year for most homeowners. Without the Endowment’s contribution, that figure would have been nearly four times higher.

Your Vote Matters
Informed voters make stronger communities. Learn the facts, weigh the impact on our schools and neighborhoods, and make your voice heard this November.
